Dr. Anthony Garcia
Physics Department Faculty
Specialty: Fluvial Geomorphology and Quaternary Geology
Dr. Garcia earned his B.A. in Fine Arts at the University of California, Los Angeles (1988) before going on to earn his B.S. in Geology (Magna Cum Laude) at San Jose State University. He then received his M.S. in Earth and Planetary Sciences from the University of New Mexico and lastly his Ph.D. in Geological Sciences at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Dr. Garcia is a field-based Quaternary geologist who studies landscape and landform evolution using fluvial geomorphology and soil geomorphology. He is starting his sixteenth year in teaching and teaches geology as a language to understand Earth processes, with the ultimate goal of allowing students to discover how the Earth’s magic works for themselves.
Dr. Garcia is a first generation Cuban-American, born in Miami, Florida. He has been fluent in English and Spanish since childhood. Dr.Garcia’s passions outside of geology include bicycling, motorcycling, and being married to Jill. He spends most of his time outside of work walking and hiking with Jill and his two wolf-hybrids.
